Lindenhurst, NEW YORK (April 2024)—Students from Alleghany and Harding Avenue elementary schools recently had their artwork featured at a community forum. Selected students showcased the variety of artistic skills that they had been practicing at each grade level. The art teacher at both schools is Kerri Webb.

Kindergarteners and first graders have been learning about primary colors and color mixing. They created rainbow paintings and painted gumball machines based on their newly acquired skills.

Second grade artists have been learning about earthly elements and color temperatures. They studied sea turtles and their characteristics while brainstorming ways to keep the oceans clean. The students also created abstract paintings of sea animals using warm and cool colors.

Third graders have been learning about opposites, such as light and shadow. They created abstract paintings of a sun and moon.

Meanwhile, fourth and fifth grade artists studied 3D art and clay sculptures. The fourth graders created ice cream sundae sculptures for the exhibit, while fifth graders studied claymation and created their own clay monsters.
