Lindenhurst High School’s symphony orchestra, under the direction of Kristin Lombardo, recently earned the Gold with Distinction rating at the 2024 NYSSMA Majors Festival at West Islip High School. Gold with Distinction is the highest rating the organization bestows on performances by student-musicians.

The NYSSMA Majors Festival differs from others throughout the year by specifically providing a venue for larger ensembles to perform before panels of NYSSMA adjudicators. This is the first time Lindenhurst’s symphony orchestra has performed at this festival in seven years.

The Lindenhurst student-musicians performed three pieces for two NYSSMA adjudicators. The adjudicators evaluated the orchestra and provided comments on the pieces.

“Congratulations to our very talented symphony orchestra and their dedicated instructor, Ms. Lombardo,” said Robert Lombardo, Director of Fine and Performing Arts at the Lindenhurst School District. “This is a major accomplishment for these student-musicians, and one I hope they will remember throughout their musical careers.”
