During the Oct. 12 meeting of the Lindenhurst Union Free School District Board of Education, the eight esteemed members of the Board were recognized for their tireless efforts representing the students, staff and members of the Lindenhurst community as part of Board Appreciation Week.

As part of the recognition, students from West Gates Elementary School performed a song for the Board led by teachers Shaina Fischer and Maria Ierardi, Harding Avenue students showed a video created by Dawn DeNatalie and Melanie Inzirillo to the Board thanking them for all they do and thank-you cards were also presented to them by Leighann Hollweg and Brenna. High school technology teacher Frank LoCascio designed name plates and, with assistance from technology teachers Ms. Ibrahim, Mr. Spinaris and Mr. Zembryzycki, students cut them out using new scroll saws. Each name plate was then sanded and given a clear coat. Hanging name signs were also gifted to the Board members, created by students with help from middle school technology teachers Ms. Sleezer and Mr. Severson using the new Glowforge laser cutter. 3D-printed bulldogs were created using the new Ultimaker 3D printer.

Additionally, two talented student-musicians from Lindenhurst High School, Sinead Buckley and Aurelia Cacace, were recognized for their selection to perform in the 2022 New York State School Music Association’s All-State performance, which will take place this December in Rochester, New York.

Board trustee Josephine Martino also received the Level 2 Board Excellence Award from the New York State School Boards Association for her continued effort to expand her school board knowledge and skills for enhanced board governance.
