More about Albany Avenue Elementary School

The positive school climate that prevails at Albany Avenue School is one that addresses the needs of our culturally diverse student population throughout the year.

It fully involves our parents, our faculty and our staff in a cooperative and multilingual setting. Strong support of short- and long-term goals is provided by all, and our students are eager to learn in an environment where learning is inviting and motivating. A high level of parental involvement, and an active and supportive PTA, all play a significant role in the successes realized by each of our students.

One of our most important goals at Albany Avenue is to embrace a true love of reading and writing. As such, students are involved in a variety of literacy-based activities, including an emphasis on independent reading, guided reading and writing, shared reading and read-alouds. In addition to the strong academics provided, our students participate in physical education, art, library and music. All areas of the curriculum, including our expanding Spanish dual-language program, are designed to address and adhere to the New York State Standards.

Increased student performance and family engagement continues to be a priority at Albany Avenue as well. Our student population is actively involved throughout the entire school year in activities that encourage community participation, including Parents as Reading Partners (PARP), monthly family game nights, family multicultural events and our winter and spring concerts. Extra- and co-curricular activities, including Homework Club, Math Club, Safety Club and our Student Council, ensure our students are involved in activities reinforcing both the academic and social and emotional skills learned in their classrooms. Reading, math, ENL, speech, physical occupational therapy and Resource Room are also provided. Technology, including individual Chromebooks provided by the district, help to enhance the school experience.

Albany Avenue is the home of achievers, ready and eager to learn!
